PROFILE
Oranje-Nassau Groep B.V. ('the Group') both invests in and manages interests in energy and private equity, after having disposed of its real estate activities in 2007. The energy sector is active in exploration for and development and production of oil and gas. The main regions of interest are Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The private equity sector primarily invests in internationally oriented companies.

The Group is principally involved in long-term projects. Both management and the multidisciplinary staff have ample knowledge of and broad experience in the Group's areas of activity.
The Group's international network and industrial background provide a solid foundation for further development of its activities and broadening of its interests.

HISTORY
The roots of the Group lie in the N.V. Maatschappij tot Exploitatie van Limburgsche Steenkolenmijnen, which in 1893 was granted the concession for exploitation of coal deposits in the south of the province of Limburg and became the largest private mining company in the Netherlands. The present shareholder, the French group Wendel Investissement S.A., acquired the founders' shares in 1908.

Due to a change in Dutch energy policy in the early 1960s, it became clear that the days of mining activities were numbered. The last of the four Oranje-Nassau mines was closed in 1974. By that time a process of restructuring was already under way leading to the development of present activities.
