GENERAL
The portfolio companies developed favourably again this year. Further increases in the value of several investments were realised.
In cooperation with partners, the sector focuses on investments in leading international enterprises with growth potential.

ACQUISITIONS AND DISPOSALS
During the year under review a number of investment possibilities were intensely evaluated. An agreement was reached within the Wendel group to exchange the interest in Legron for an additional 53% interest in Winvest International. With this exchange, and an earlier broadening, the Group's total interest in Winvest International amounts to 74%. This enterprise is the holding company of interests in Materis, Deutsch, Stahl and AVR.
In 2007 AVR acquired the waste management company Van Gansewinkel.

FINANCIAL
The private equity sector's total income amounted to € 96 million in 2007, compared with € 61 million in 2006, including a profit of € 43 million from the above-mentioned exchange of interests in associates. In 2006, € 14 million was realised with disposals. The contribution of the sector to the Group's net profit came to € 85 million compared with € 54 million in 2006. A total of € 705 million was invested, compared with € 63 million in 2006.
